Gasket

Home Glossary Gasket

A flexible sealing material applied to door perimeters that compresses when the door closes, blocking air, light, smoke, and sound transmission. Gaskets are critical components of acoustic, fire-rated, and weatherproof door assemblies.

Gasket profiles include bulb, blade, brush, compression, magnetic, and intumescent types. Materials range from EPDM rubber and silicone to neoprene, PVC, and specialized acoustic compounds. Mounting methods include adhesive, press-in kerf, screw-applied, and magnetic attachment.

For fire doors, gaskets must be tested and labeled as part of the complete assembly. Smoke gaskets meet UL 1784 for smoke leakage. Acoustic gaskets achieve specific STC ratings through dense materials and consistent compression. Related terms: weatherstripping, intumescent strip, door sweep. Shop gaskets and seals.
