Door Sweep

A flexible seal attached to the bottom of a door that blocks gaps between the door and threshold or floor. Door sweeps prevent air infiltration, light transmission, sound transfer, and pest entry.

Sweep types include brush (nylon bristles for uneven floors), bulb/blade (rubber or vinyl compression seal), automatic (retracts when door opens to clear carpet), and combination sweeps with multiple seal elements. Surface-mounted sweeps attach to the door face; mortised sweeps fit into a groove routed in the door bottom.

Commercial-grade sweeps use aluminum retainers with replaceable seal inserts. Lengths are trimmed to door width minus 1/8″ clearance at each end. Acoustic door sweeps incorporate dense neoprene or silicone for high STC ratings. For fire doors, only tested and labeled sweeps maintaining the assembly rating are permitted. Related: threshold, weatherstripping, astragal. Shop door sweeps.
