FORMERLY MCKINNEY DOOR SOLUTIONS & AMERICAN DOOR PRODUCTS - NOW UNITED AS AMERICAN DOORS.
A fire-stopping material that expands dramatically when exposed to heat, sealing gaps around doors to prevent passage of flame and smoke during fire events. Intumescent strips are essential components of fire-rated door assemblies.
Expansion ratios range from 5:1 to 25:1, with activation temperatures typically 250 degreesF to 450 degreesF. Strips are installed in kerfs (grooves) routed into door edges, frame rabbets, or glazing stops. Widths range from 1/4″ to 1″ with various depths.
Intumescent seals protect glazing perimeters, meeting stiles on door pairs, and the full door perimeter in smoke and fire assemblies. Combined intumescent/smoke seals provide both compression sealing at ambient temperature and fire expansion. Only use tested and labeled products compatible with the specific door assembly.
