FORMERLY MCKINNEY DOOR SOLUTIONS & AMERICAN DOOR PRODUCTS - NOW UNITED AS AMERICAN DOORS.
A round, graspable door handle used to operate a latch mechanism for opening and closing doors. While common in residential settings, knobs have limited use in commercial applications due to ADA accessibility requirements-lever handles are preferred because they can be operated without grasping or twisting.
Commercial door knobs are typically constructed from solid brass, stainless steel, or zinc alloy with various finishes. They operate either a spring latch (for passage or privacy functions) or integrate with a mortise lock or cylindrical lock for keyed security. Standard commercial knob backsets are 2-3/4″ from door edge to knob center.
Function types include passage (no lock), privacy (interior thumb-turn lock), entrance (keyed exterior), and storeroom (always locked, key required to enter). Where ADA compliance is required, levers must be used instead. Related: escutcheon, deadbolt. Brands include Schlage and Sargent. Browse commercial locksets.
