Escutcheon

A decorative and protective plate that surrounds door hardware such as knobs, levers, cylinders, and deadbolts. Escutcheons cover the hardware cutouts in the door face and provide a finished appearance.

Configurations include knob/lever escutcheons (surround the operating hardware), cylinder escutcheons (protect and trim lock cylinder), and blank escutcheons (cover unused holes). Shapes range from rectangular and oval to ornate period designs. Materials include brass, bronze, stainless steel, and zinc with various plated finishes.

Security escutcheons feature hardened steel construction, spin-proof rings, and protruding guards that resist prying and cylinder pulling attacks. Escutcheons mount with concealed screws through the door or with exposed fasteners. Size coordination with mortise lock trim and cylinder spacing is essential.
