A protective plate installed on the push side of a door to prevent soiling and damage from hands pushing the door open. Finger plates are installed at hand height and protect the door surface in high-traffic areas.
Standard finger plate dimensions are 3-1/2″ to 4″ wide by 12″ to 16″ tall, positioned at 38″ to 44″ above finished floor (ADA hand-reach zone). Materials include stainless steel, brass, bronze, aluminum, and plastic with finishes matching other door hardware.
For healthcare and food service applications, antimicrobial copper alloy or stainless steel plates reduce pathogen transmission. Smooth, flush edges prevent debris collection and simplify cleaning. Mounting uses adhesive backing or countersunk screws. Related terms: push plate, kick plate, door furniture. Shop door protection.
