A protective metal plate installed at the bottom of a door to prevent damage from foot traffic, carts, wheelchairs, and cleaning equipment. Kick plates extend door service life and maintain appearance in high-traffic commercial environments.
Standard kick plate heights are 8″, 10″, or 12″ with widths 2″ less than door width (1″ margins on each side). Materials include stainless steel (304 or 316 for corrosive environments), brass, bronze, and aluminum. Thicknesses range from .050″ (decorative) to .125″ (heavy-duty). Surface finishes include satin, polished, brushed, and anti-fingerprint coatings.
Mounting options include countersunk screws (most secure), adhesive-backed tape (easiest installation), or magnetic attachment (for steel doors). ADA guidelines recommend kick plates on push side of doors for wheelchair users. For fire doors, kick plates must not exceed the tested and labeled height.
