A device that prevents a door from swinging past a certain point, protecting walls, furniture, and the door itself from impact damage. Doorstops also hold doors open when needed.
Types include wall-mounted bumpers (rigid or spring-loaded), floor-mounted posts (dome, decorative, or heavy-duty), baseboard-mounted stops, and hinge-mounted pin stops. Commercial applications typically use floor or wall stops rated for the expected impact force. Heights and projections vary from 1″ to 4″.
Hold-open stops combine bumper function with friction or hook mechanisms that keep doors open. Fire doors must NOT use hold-open devices unless connected to fire alarm release (electromagnetic hold-opens).
