A floor-mounted or hinge-mounted device with a spring-loaded arm that flips down to prop a door open. Kickdown stops provide temporary hold-open without the permanence of fixed holds.

Activation is by foot-stepping on the lever flips it down to brace against the floor. Release is also by foot or by pushing the door past the stop point. Floor-mounted types have fixed or adjustable heights; hinge-mounted types replace one hinge leaf.

Kickdown stops are convenient for deliveries, moving, and temporary ventilation needs. NOT permitted for fire doors-fire doors must never be propped open except by electromagnetic hold-opens tied to fire alarm. Related: doorstop, door holder. Shop door stops.
