Continuous Hinge

A full-length hinge running the entire height of the door, providing uniform load distribution and superior durability in high-traffic applications. Also called piano hinges due to their original use on piano lids.

Commercial continuous hinges are typically 1-11/16″ or 2″ wide when open, fabricated from 14 or 12 gauge steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. Geared continuous hinges use interlocking teeth rather than a pin, eliminating the knuckle gap and providing smoother operation with higher load capacity.

Weight capacities range from 450 lbs (standard-duty) to 900 lbs (heavy-duty) or unlimited for geared types. Continuous hinges resist abuse and forced entry better than multiple butt hinges. Required by many jurisdictions for restroom partitions, fire doors in high-traffic areas, and security applications. Related: butt hinge, pivot hinge. SELECT Hinges and MARKAR.
