FORMERLY MCKINNEY DOOR SOLUTIONS & AMERICAN DOOR PRODUCTS - NOW UNITED AS AMERICAN DOORS.
A hinge system where the door rotates on top and bottom pivot points rather than side-mounted butt hinges. Pivot hinges support heavier doors, enable center-pivot operation, and provide cleaner aesthetics.
Pivot types include offset (standard door swing), center-hung (door pivots at center, projecting equally both directions), and intermediate pivots (additional support for tall/heavy doors). Load capacities range from 300 lbs to 2,000+ lbs depending on specification.
Offset pivot sets place the pivot point 3/4″ from the hinge jamb. Top pivots mount in the frame head; bottom pivots install in the floor (recessed or surface). Intermediate pivots in the door edge and jamb provide mid-height support for doors over 8′ tall. Related terms: balanced door, butt hinge. Brands include Rixson and DORMA. Shop pivot hardware.
