FORMERLY MCKINNEY DOOR SOLUTIONS & AMERICAN DOOR PRODUCTS - NOW UNITED AS AMERICAN DOORS.
A closure device using magnetic attraction to hold doors in the closed position without mechanical latching. Magnetic catches are used on cabinet doors, light-duty passage doors, and as supplemental closures.
Components include a magnet (permanent or electromagnetic) and a ferrous strike plate. Pull forces range from 2 lbs (light cabinet duty) to 25+ lbs (heavy duty). Surface-mounted, mortised, and adjustable configurations accommodate various applications.
Touch-latch magnetic catches release with a push, enabling handle-free operation. Heavy-duty magnetic catches can serve as primary closures for closets and storage rooms. Not suitable for fire doors, which require positive latching. Related terms: ball catch, latch. Shop door catches.
