FORMERLY MCKINNEY DOOR SOLUTIONS & AMERICAN DOOR PRODUCTS - NOW UNITED AS AMERICAN DOORS.
A small optical device installed through a door that allows occupants to view visitors without opening the door. Also called a door viewer, peepholes enhance security by enabling identification before granting access.
Standard peepholes use a wide-angle lens (typically 160 degrees to 200 degrees field of view) mounted in a cylindrical housing. Viewer diameter is typically 1/2″ with barrel lengths from 1-3/8″ to 2-1/4″ to accommodate various door thicknesses. One-way optics prevent viewing from outside while providing clear interior-to-exterior visibility.
Digital peephole viewers incorporate LCD screens, cameras, and motion recording capabilities. ADA-compliant installations require viewers at 43″ to 48″ height for wheelchair accessibility-or dual viewers at standard and accessible heights. For fire doors, only UL-listed viewers that maintain the fire rating are permitted. Materials include brass, chrome, and satin nickel finishes. Related: door viewer, security door.
