FORMERLY MCKINNEY DOOR SOLUTIONS & AMERICAN DOOR PRODUCTS - NOW UNITED AS AMERICAN DOORS.
A lock mechanism that is recessed (mortised) into the edge of a door, providing superior strength and durability compared to cylindrical locks. Mortise locks are the standard choice for commercial and institutional applications requiring high security and heavy use.
The mortise lock body (typically 6″ to 8″ tall) houses the latch bolt, deadbolt, and operating mechanisms in a single unit. Standard mortise preparations require a 6″ to 8″ deep pocket in the door edge plus face plate routing. Cylinders thread into the lock body from the door face, with standard cylinder hole spacing of 3-7/8″ or 4″.
Functions include entry (keyed outside, thumb-turn inside), classroom (locked/unlocked by key, always free egress), storeroom (always locked outside), passage (no locking), and privacy. BHMA/ANSI Grade 1 mortise locks are rated for 800,000+ cycles. Works with escutcheons, roses, or trim sets. Major brands include Sargent, Schlage, and Corbin Russwin. Shop mortise locks.
