FORMERLY MCKINNEY DOOR SOLUTIONS & AMERICAN DOOR PRODUCTS - NOW UNITED AS AMERICAN DOORS.
A locking mechanism that secures a door by extending a solid metal bolt into the door frame, providing significantly more security than spring-latch locks. Unlike latches, deadbolts are not spring-loaded and cannot be pushed back without rotating the key or thumb-turn.
Commercial deadbolts feature hardened steel bolts with a minimum 1″ throw (extension into frame). Grade 1 deadbolts (BHMA/ANSI standard) are required for commercial applications and must withstand 10 strikes of 75 foot-pounds of force. Anti-saw pins, hardened steel inserts, and anti-drill plates provide additional security against physical attack.
Common configurations include single-cylinder (keyed exterior, thumb-turn interior), double-cylinder (keyed both sides-requires code compliance review for egress), and captive thumb-turn (removable interior thumb-turn). Deadbolts should be paired with reinforced jamb strike plates using 3″ screws into the wall framing. Related: mortise lock, high-security cylinder. Available from Schlage, Medeco, and ASSA ABLOY.
