Special-Lite, Inc. was founded in 1971 in Decatur, Michigan and pioneered the use of fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) material for door skins in the early 1980s, becoming the largest volume producer of commercial FRP doors in the United States. Their flagship SL–17 FRP Door features SpecLite3 fiberglass reinforced polyester face sheets on an aluminum chassis with poured-in-place urethane foam core, solving door maintenance problems for educational facility managers since 1983. With manufacturing locations in Michigan and Arkansas, Special-Lite produces high-performance doors, framing, bathroom partitions, and vestibules for educational, commercial, institutional, industrial, and municipal applications throughout North America and worldwide.
