Founded in 1903, SOSS Door Hardware invented the concealed hinge when Joseph Soss tripped on a ship’s hatch with protruding hinges—necessity and innovation collided, and the world’s first invisible hinge was born. The company moved to Warren, Michigan in 1940 to be closer to automotive customers, with Rolls Royce, Henry Ford, and Frank Lloyd Wright among early specifiers. Now celebrating over 120 years in business, SOSS remains a family-owned company under Joseph Soss’ great-grandson Neil Marko, continuing to introduce new and improved invisible hinge designs for residential and commercial applications where clean aesthetics are paramount.
